Abstract
Looking back on the history of Chinese drama in the past century, Cao Yu’s drama is
an artistic peak which cannot be profaned. A Rain of Thunder made him one of the most
outstanding playwrights in theatre history. A gifted playwright, he made his first debut,
Thunderstorm, at just 23. With its powerful aura, this work shocked the Chinese drama
circle which was exploring and debating at that time. It was called as a symbol of the
